LOCAL RAIL USERS are keeping up the campaign for upgrading of services on the train line through the upper Calder Valley, Brighouse, Halifax and Bradford.
HADRAG, the Halifax and District Rail Action Group, says the recent introduction of a new Hebden Bridge-Leeds regular daytime service which runs direct from Brighouse to Leeds via Dewsbury shows that rail is potentially the fastest way of travelling
the length of Calderdale District as well as providing a vital link for commuters to Halifax, Bradford, Leeds and Manchester.
HADRAG wants to see the new service extended to serve Todmorden and continue to Manchester, improving the cross-Pennine link for Brighouse passengers as well as people in the Hebden Royd area. At the same time, the rail users say more coaches are needed on the existing services to improve comfort standards for commuters at both Leeds and Manchester ends of the line, plus more trains and faster journeys on the Bradford-Halifax-Manchester route, as well as some even faster services on the Brighouse-Leeds route, and a new station to serve Elland.
Passengers will get chance to quiz rail officials at HADRAG's Annual General Meeting on Monday . The meeting, which is open to all local rail users and others interested in the development of sustainable transport in the area, starts at 7.30pm in the Nalgo Bar, on the lower ground floor of Northgate House, Northgate, Halifax.
