Poet recaptures the Crown

Mesmerising poet Tony Curtis will return to Hebden Bridge after a five-year absence on Sunday, having lost none of his fascination with everyday subject matter.

Tony will be at the newly reopened Crown Inn, Crown Street - formerly known as b@rplace - from 5pm.

Calder Valley-based poetry publishers Arc Publications have arranged for Tony to spend some time at the venue, weaving stories and sometimes songs around his poems to give a unique and intimate performance.

Sarah Hymas of Arc said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for anyone who enjoys live poetry readings, as Tony is a master of drawing you into his fascination with the everyday, the quirky and the downright extraordinary.

“We’re also seeing it as a celebration of the Crown’s refurbishment. We had some wonderful readings there when it was b@rplace and hope this marks the first of many more in the plush new surroundings.”

Irish stew will be on the menu as a special treat.
