Bittersweet, lovelorn fun

Hebden Bridge Little Theatre launch their new season with Jimmie Chinn’s bittersweet comedy “Sylvia’s Wedding.”

After 10 years of the steadiest of courtships Gordon proposes to Sylvia over a cod and chips supper. Both sets of parents are thrown into turmoil, Gordon’s because they think they are far too grand for Sylvia’s downmarket family and Sylvia’s because they can’t afford the expenses. Matters are not helped by Sylvia’s cynical friend’s continual, sniping comments and all seems doomed to fail when the family budgie dies...

The strong cast sees five people making their debuts with the society – Laura Womersley as Sylvia and Andy Bean as her lovelorn partner Gordon. Pam Asling is Sylvia’s mother and Gordon’s parents are Martin Walker and Helen Forsyth. Returning to the stage are Terry Baynham as Sylvia’s father and Sharon McCarter as her cynical friend Yvonne.

The play runs from February 25 to March 2 with an additional matinee on the final Saturday. Tickets are available at Innovation or by phoning 01422 843907, same number to book a season ticket.
