Artists to display their wares at Open Studios
Saqinah Haq at Brooklyn Studios, Hebden Bridge. She will be taking part in the annual Open Studios event in July 2013.
Plans are being made for the annual Hebden Bridge Open Studios - and the deadline for this year’s event is fast approaching.
Artists from all over the town and the surrounding area are invited to open up their studios to the public from July 5-7.
The regular fixture on the upper Calder Valley calendar is enjoyed by hundreds of residents and visitors alike each year.
A spokesperson said: “Visitors enjoy seeing the wealth of artworks produced in this area and celebrate the fact that many of our artists are known nationally.
“This is a special opportunity for artists to present and discuss the motives and processes behind their work.”
The Open Studios map is centered in Hebden Bridge and extends to Mytholmroyd, Old Town, Heptonstall and Todmorden.
The spokesperson said: “It is a fantastic setting to showcase work and an important event for the town and surrounding area.
“It is hoped that the Open Studios, Arts Festival and other regular summer events will reinforce Hebden’s well deserved reputation of being on the cultural map.”
The volunteers who make up the Open Studios Steering Group are keen for even more artists to be involved this year.
Artists wishing to take part in the event need to complete an application form. These can be collected from Hebden Bridge Visitor and Canal Centre or by emailing info@hbopenstudios.org.uk.
The closing date for applications is February 25.
The Hebden Bridge Open Studios brochure will be launched in May.
This will contain details of all the artists taking part and where to find them.
It will be available in local shops and venues and will also be able to be downloaded from the website, www.hbopenstudios.org.uk.
Last year the event survived the floods and all 81 artists opened their studio doors in mills, houses and chapels.
Artists confirmed in 2013 include Saqinah Haq in her studio at Brooklyn Studios, Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge. She describes her work as “unique mosaic mirrors incorporating handmade ceramic pieces”.
Kate Lycett will be opening up her Bridge Lanes studio, Hebden Bridge, to display her colourful landscapes and townscapes.
