Actors' co-op goes from strength to strength

A CALDER Valley-based acting co-operative is going from strength to strength with members set to appear in Emmerdale and several local adverts.

North of Watford, based in Hebden Bridge, will soon be celebrating its 27th anniversary and as a testament to its success has recently seen Sare Bahadori star in a Yorkshire Tea advert, Cynthia H Rover appear in a Yorkshire Water advert and will soon see Carol Ann Dunne and Jonny Mcpherson appearing in the ITV soap.

Further success has seen Lisa Allen, Dan Carey, Barrie Ryan English, Jonny Mcpherson and Gail Burland all appear alongside Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk in Emmerdale, in the Hebden shorts at the recent Hebden Bridge Festival and Chris Orton and Gail Burland doing voiceover work for Pennine Prospects.

Timothy Richey will also soon be appearing in The Woody Guthrie Story at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Jo Gerard is going on tour with Barrie Rutter's Northern Broadsides theatre company, which is based in Halifax.

Marketing manager Lisa Allen said: "It's a co-operative agency so we look after each other and staff the office and it means everybody is working for everybody else. In the truest sense of the word we are a co-operative.

"It was started in Hebden Bridge and I don't think it will ever move.

"There's so many directors and producers and contacts - it's a perfect location to be in.

" The north in terms of actors is a lot better than the south and now that the BBC is moving to Salford there should be a lot more work for us, so I think the agency will only get stronger."

North of Watford was formed in 1983 by three actors - Susannah Cunningham and her brother Glenn, along with Emmerdale star Drew Dawson, who played Jock MacDonald.
