WELCOMING back the Iron Man murals to Mytholmroyd Railway Station are from the back, left, Mayor of Hebden Royd, Coun Betty Ward, station manager Matthew Gibson, Chris Leech of Northern Rail, Geoff Mitchell, of the Station partnership, and, front, Tom Hawkins, 10 of Scout Road, Primary School and Thomas Stamp, 13 of Calder High School.
Four years ago students at four local schools made four murals of the character who was created by the late Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes who was born in the village.

Now, after a much-needed renovation the children’s murals are back.

Mr Geoff Mitchell of the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership said: “We have unveiled the renovated murals which were suffering after four years of Pennine Weather. People can now once again stop and enjoy the story as they arrive.”

The Mayor of Hebden Royd Coun Ward opened the new display. Local firm Pennine Signs refurbished the murals and the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership were successful in obtaining support from Calderdale Rural Grants and Hebden Royd Town Council as well as the original sponsors for the refurbishment.

A scheme to encourage young artists at local schools was also announced. There work will also go on display at the station.
