Theft,
Hebden Bridge Little Theatre

They've another hit on their hands at the Hebden Bridge Little Theatre with Theft by Eric Chappell.

It warms up a wet winter's night with a strong cast of five keeping the audience chortling in a surprisingly deep comic drama.

Ray Riches's direction of this black comedy, which is more about what ordinary people take from each other than a mere burglary, offers a fine array of actors on an elegant set.

While the pace might suggest a jolly, predictable romp, what we actually get is a discomforting probe into our domestic deceptions and adult inadequacies.

The "inquiry" is led by the burglar played by Steve Dodwell who delivers a touching and true performance.

It is a very impressive show indeed. In all, the feisty five triumph over a relatively pedestrian script.

A town of Hebden Bridge's size to produce such city-comparable competence? With tight performances and unflagging energies? It's a credit to them all from the clever director down. Don't miss it – it runs until Saturday.
