BONNY lasses can receive a kiss from Toss Pot as Pace Egg festivities return for another year.
Good Friday - March 21 - will see hundreds flock to Weaver's Square, Heptonstall, to see the traditional Pace Egg Play with their favourite characters including St George, the Black Prince and, of course, the amorous Toss Pot whose kiss is said to be
stow fertility.
Every year people gather to see the Heptonstall Players perform. Audiences marvel as the English patron battles challengers and attackers spring back to life.
The script, which is thought to be one of the world's oldest dramas, is always littered with irregularities and ad libs. But the regular audiences who come back year after year are always on hand to help with any lines the actors stumble over.
This year will be the 28th Pace Egg Play as the tradition was revived in 1979.
David Burnop, who plays the Doctor, restarted the event and has performed annually ever since.
He said: "Easter is early this year so it will be a bit colder than usual but we have done it in pouring rain before.
"I remember one year it was absolutely throwing it down but the audience got wet with us instead of walking away. It is great to have such a loyal audience and we look forward to seeing everyone again this year."
The rest of the cast is Ray Riches as St George, Jimmy Green as Bold Slasher, Andy Carter as Black Prince, Sydney Roper as King of Egypt, Stuart Hought as Hector and Dean Gash as Toss Pot.
Performance times are 11.15am, 12.454pm, 2.15pm and 3.45pm.
And the Hill Millies women's morris dancers from the Hebden Bridge area will be dancing before each performance.
