It’s a modern twist on a traditional parade.”
With more than 520 people taking part in the parade, the event was almost twice as big as last year’s inaugural parade. Now the organisers are already thinking about fund raising for next year’s parade.
Parade artistic director Andrew Kim, said: “I'm thrilled by just how much the community rallied behind this parade! The last three weeks have been an explosion of paint and creativity in that corner of town.
“The parade had just the right mix of professional art mixed with crazy kid art and top-notch carnival music. I was especially proud of our newly-formed Hebden Bridge Samba and stilt ensemble. A special thanks to all the Calder High students who created such a moving pageant in the park - it even made the sun come out!"
Jude Wadley, of HEADS, said: “More than 50 volunteers helped during the workshops and stewarded on the day, and organisers, HEADS and Thingumajig Theatre would like to say a big thank-you to everyone, most of all the adults and children who made wonderful costumes and took part. Thanks also to our funders who helped to make it all possible.”
A number of organisations, businesses and individuals supported the Handmade Parade and associated workshops, including Arts Council England, Yorkshire, Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, Hebden Royd Town Council, Calderdale Council Rural Grant, the Community Foundation for Calderdale, South Pennines Leader Programme, and Pennine Prospects via the Heritage Lottery Fund.
