A HEBDEN Bridge artist has turned handicrafts into high art as part of an exciting new show at Leeds College of Art.
Rebecca Norman, 24, has devised ways of creating craft while being a mum and mum to be.
She said: "I sew and weave and do macramé whenever my baby has a nap.
"That might be on the train, in the car, in doctors' waiting rooms or in cafes.
"I make art that I can pick up and put down, and doesn't involve setting out and clearing away messy materials.
"Taking advantage of the irregular downtime you get as a new mum is the only way to get anything done."
Rebecca, who lives with partner Drew, baby Matilda and two cats, is one of nine part-time fine art students exhibiting in the show.
The show, titledTen, runs from Friday July 3 to Friday July 31.
Rebecca said: "There are some brilliant art techniques that have been passed down in families and in the home, not taught in colleges. Craft often isn't seen as 'real' art but there's no reason why that should be so."
Alison Button, show co-ordinator, said: "We've made it our business to be bold and different. We haven't just politely pushed boundaries, we're gleefully shoving them – or ignoring them all together."
