A CROSS-CONTINENTAL challenge raised £3,000 for charity.
Ian Leaper and Andrew Bolton, both from Hebden Bridge, and Pat Wheatley from Wiltshire spent 21 days travelling from Plymouth to Bamako, Africa, in their Citroen Leader car. And they were only allowed to spend £100 getting it ready.
The car was serviced, free of charge, by the staff at Murt's Motor Centre at Sandbed.
The group set out on Christmas Day and handed the car over in Bamako on January 20, having taken a detour to visit Timbuktu.
When they arrived at their destination, the car and anything that remained worth selling were auctioned off with all the proceeds going to local charities in Mali to be decided on by the Bamako Rotary Club.
The trio were also raising money for the MJP Cancer Care Trust Fund, a charity which supports research into Ewing's Sarcoma.
The charity was chosen after Ian's niece Alex Quinn died after suffering from the illness.
A final fundraiser was held at the Trades Club and just over £1,200 was raised.
Ian's wife, Sue Leaper, said: "We'd like to say a big thank you to all the bands that played free of charge, especially local band The Owter Zeds and the Trades Club that donated the venue.
"We're also really grateful to Murt's for all their support."
