A TEENAGE singer and songwriter from Hebden Bridge has beaten over 10,000 singers and bands to perform at a national music competition.
Alice Jane, 15, will appear live at the regional semi-final of "Live and Unsigned" - one of the UK's biggest music talent searches.

The competition's aim is to find potential recording artists.

Chris Grayston, events director of Live and Unsigned explained: "This cannot be compared to any other talent search as the acts' talent is what makes the show.

"We are interested in discovering and exposing talent at its best - live. It is as simple as we say - get live, get signed."

Alice Jane is now preparing to compete amongst fifteen other hopefuls on Saturday March 1 at Sheffield's Montgomery Theatre, for a place in the regional final.

The under 18s overall winner will have the opportunity to record a track written by Lemar and Mark Hill, Craig David's producer, and will get to record an album.

All winners will be invited on the UK Live and Unsigned Tour.

The tour involves as many as 100 gigs across the UK including the chance to perform live at some well known festivals.

Paul King, from Future Music, said: "We have found that the competition is so effective for us to discover talented acts and bands and to place them in the music market place.

"We can really see those acts that have the commitment and fan base to be successful in the industry, and for the acts involved it is a great opportunity to develop, improve and impress."
