PRESIDENT Evelyn Graham welcomed over seventy members and guests to the first meeting of 2008 of the Mytholmroyd Historical Society, held in the Methodist Church.
The speaker was John Billingsley, whose many areas of expertise include local legends and folklore.

In his talk entitled "The Mixenden Treasure", the speaker transported the audience back to the sixteenth century as he described the activities, the characters, the myths and the magic surrounding legendary buried treasure in Mixenden and the surrounding areas. Bertha Rawnsley expressed thanks. The next meeting is at the same venue on Friday February 8 at 7.30pm, when the speaker is Ian Emberson on The Brontes. New members are welcome.
